Welcome
We welcome men and women of all ages to practice Pilates with confidence through small classes led by an experienced Pilates instructor and qualified osteopath. We specialize in providing a personal touch for general fitness, post-natal health and rehabilitation, allowing individual needs to be met in a fun way. Musculoskeletal symptoms can be accommodated to individual requirements.
Pilates is suitable for most people, regardless of age, current health and fitness level, if taught appropriately and with individual needs taken into account. It can contribute positively to general health, fitness and injury prevention, be helpful for sufferers of back pain, be a useful adjunct to other sports and fitness activities, or may be used to facilitate rehabilitation after injury, surgery or illness.
Pilates exercises involve the use of bodyweight and gravity and are generally performed on the floor, sometimes with the aid of small equipment, in what is called, mat work Pilates. Exercises can target specific parts of the body or can emphasise whole body movement to re-educate movement patterns.
Whether your goal is to redefine your body shape, relieve stiffness, build strength or regain fitness, the first step is positive thinking. Pilates has the potential to change the shape of your body. Back and hip pain can be relieved and postural problems can be corrected. With belief and the discipline to practice, you can watch your goals being attained.‘Pilates is designed to give you suppleness, natural grace and skill that will be unmistakably reflected in the way you walk, play and work.’ JOSEPH PILATES
In addition…..
Having suffered a spinal injury herself, it was when Gaynor began to practice Pilates for the purpose of her own rehabilitation that she fully realised its power and effectiveness. Over the years, she has developed Pilates classes in conjunction with her Osteopathy practice. Her Pilates classes, whilst primarily for exercise at a recreational level, can be combined with osteopathic treatments which address spinal disorders such as back pain, spinal compression, hypermobility, scoliosis, kyphosis and lordotic postures. Meet Gaynor
From a dancing and athletics background, Gaynor has studied and worked in the fitness industry for thirty years, specializing in studio based fitness classes and personal training. Twenty years ago, while working in America, she trained in the Classic Pilates method.
From those early beginnings, she further developed her skills within musculoskeletal medicine, training as a clinical sports therapist before qualifying as an Osteopath after a five-year degree course. Gaynor’s qualification enables her to focus on ensuring that clients receive a personal touch, irrespective of whether their goals are general fitness or specific rehabilitation. She has always held a keen interest in health and fitness and this drives her desire to help people maximize their potential by moving, looking and feeling better.
How will I benefit
Anyone can perform Pilates as the exercises are designed to put minimum strain on the body. It is one of the safest forms of exercise and yet it delivers a wide range of results. In most gyms, you will hear the mantra ‘no pain, no gain’. But you won’t hear it in a Pilates class. Pilates is a gentle, non-aerobic form of exercise that will tone and strengthen your muscles and transform poor posture without stressing the joints or the heart.
Gaynor’s Pilates classes are fantastic and have really sorted out my low back pain. The classes are wonderfully led and the movements really flow. The atmosphere is relaxed, supportive and non-competitive, we take it at our own pace and most importantly of all it is FUN! An hour of peace in an otherwise hectic schedule! I cannot thank Gaynor enough, she is brilliant!
