At GK Pilates, we aim to make our classes relevant to the participants. We offer mat work classes for different levels of fitness from beginner to intermediate level.
Whether you are new to Pilates, are recovering from injury or illness or just looking to increase flexibility and mobility, then a beginner’s class or a mixed ability class would be ideal, three levels of instructions are given to accommodate beginners, intermediate’s and those seeking more advanced moves.
We offer a ‘body-conditioning’ class which combines mixed aerobic exercises and incorporates upper body and lower body work with some light weights (optional) and some basic Pilates mat work. This is essentially a recreational class and great for all ages and levels and enhances overall fitness.
We provide a ‘beginners/improvers class’, designed for people of mixed ability, which covers the basic principles of Pilates and those mat exercises that are essential for the best results. Exercises and work-outs are progressive, comfortable and manageable. Classes are tailored to individuals, meaning that variations of the exercises will be provided when needed so that everyone feels the benefit and works to meet their own goals.
If you have already acquired a general knowledge of the Pilates principles and you are looking to push yourself a little more, you can step up to our ‘intermediate’ mixed ability class. The aim of this intermediate class is to gradually perfect movements, placements and the centering of the body, challenging control and stability. These classes are dynamic, full of energy and designed to leave you feeling stronger and fitter by strengthening, lengthening and toning all the major and minor muscle groups synergistically with emphasis on deep core muscles.

Classes run on a termly basis, the dates and times of which are available on the Contact Us page. There is a free trial session for newcomers. Loyalty discounts may apply. Summer Classes are pay as you go and open to friends and family who may wish to try.
At times, mat exercise classes will incorporate the use of mat based equipment, such as Pilates rings and bands. These will be provided by GK Pilates. Mats are also supplied but for personal comfort and hygiene you are advised to bring your own.
In cases where a neck support or pillow is recommended, information on what to buy and where can be supplied.
Please wear clothing that allows you to move freely. You are required to wear socks, Pilates slippers or go bare feet (see FAQ 8.7).
If you have an injury that requires specific attention, please call or consult with Gaynor before you attend class.
